In the Yiwu small commodity market, vendors from Wenzhou are the main group. In fact, before the rise of Yiwu, the professional market in Wenzhou had already developed to a considerable extent.
Compared to Yiwu, Wenzhou is a more legendary place name. In the history of contemporary reform in China, Wenzhou can be regarded as a "holy land". Here, the first batch of individual business owners, the first batch of professional markets, and the first batch of private companies were born, and as a result, this place also faced enormous political and ideological pressure. Every time there was a clash of ideas, this place became the target of public criticism. In the governance and rectification that began last year, Wenzhou has become a focus of attention, and the occurrence of the "Eight Great Kings Incident" is not an accidental phenomenon. The rectification once caused a sudden cooling down of the chaotic and lively Wenzhou economy, but the hidden water flow among the people has never ceased.
Around 1983, there were over 100000 households and 400000 employees in Wenzhou's family industry. Over the years, 100000 people traveled across the country to promote products and purchase raw materials. Later, some people used the "four thousand spirit" to describe the hardships of this "100000 strong army of buyers and sellers": they went through countless hardships, spoke countless words, traveled thousands of mountains and rivers, and tried their best. Under the hustle and bustle of these salespeople, more than 400 distribution centers for commodity trading have gradually formed in counties such as Yueqing and Cangnan. Some of the slightly larger ones are commonly referred to as the "Top Ten Professional Markets in Wenzhou" by philanthropists. The traded goods in these markets are daily small commodities and productive raw materials, such as buttons, plastic woven bags, plastic shoes, low-voltage electrical appliances, leather, aluminum-plastic labels, and so on.
