Renbao is the leader
There are over 900000 villages in China, each with a village branch secretary, and Wu Renbao may be the longest serving and most famous one. He served as the secretary of Huaxi Village in Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province from the age of 28 until he announced his retirement 48 years later, and then passed on this position to his fourth son.

Under his governance, Huaxi Village became a "national model" since the 1960s. When he first took office, this small village in southern Jiangsu had a debt of 25000 yuan. By the time he retired, it had fixed assets of 3 billion yuan, 58 village run enterprises, and an average annual income of 6000 US dollars per capita for more than 2000 villagers. Each household was "allocated" a small car and a villa of over 400 square meters.
