There is a story circulating in the Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions about the 'Sunday Engineer'. In 1986, a farmer named Xu Chuanhua from Xiaoshan County, Zhejiang Province, founded a chemical factory that produced liquid soap. He hired a professional technician from a state-owned factory in Hangzhou, who often asked the Xu family and his son to leave during the final process of liquid soap processing. He took out a pack of white powder from his pocket and poured it into the uncondensed liquid soap, completing the production process of liquid soap in several large tanks. After paying for several years of technical service fees, Xu Chuanhua decided to spend 2000 yuan to buy that mysterious formula. After paying, the technician told him that the white powder package was actually salt. Chuanhua Group later became one of the largest manufacturers of printing and dyeing auxiliaries in China.

On March 28th, the Economic Reference Daily reported that a bicycle factory in Yulin County, Guangxi Province, partnered with Shanghai Bicycle Factory No. 3 to produce the most well-known "Phoenix" brand bicycles in China at that time. In addition to the factory in Yulin, the brand "Phoenix" has also been sold to township enterprises in Shaoxing, Zhejiang. A report in April stated that hundreds of township enterprises in Wuxi, Jiangsu have gained vitality through joint ventures, with state-owned enterprises helping them train technical workers, debug equipment, conduct product research and development, assist in raising foreign exchange, and provide brand support.
