In Guangdong Province alone, 21 suit production lines, 18 beverage filling lines, 22 food and bread production lines, and 12 furniture production lines were introduced. The most typical case of introduction is that 9 provinces and cities jointly introduced 9 identical "Ariston" refrigerator production lines of the same model to the Italian company Meloni, with each production line priced at 30 million yuan and an annual production capacity of 300000 units. For a time, China successively produced the "Ariston Nine Brothers" of Hefei Meiling, Mudanjiang Arctic Ocean, Nanjing Bole, Shanghai Far East, Jingdezhen Huayi, Chongqing Wuzhou, Baoji Changling, Lanzhou Changfeng, and Sino Italian refrigerators. In the subsequent rush to purchase household appliances, these enterprises were all in the limelight and became major local taxpayers. At their peak, the production of the "Nine Brothers" accounted for one-third of the total refrigerator production in the country. And 10 years later, 8 families withered, with only one branch of Meiling remaining.
